Will AI take our jobs?

Without humans, there would be no AI, and any AI we develop should serve our needs; otherwise, it’s just a wasted effort.

When approached the right way, AI can enhance our humanity and increase our value in the workplace.

Three key competencies that we all need to develop.

Being AI-ready, human-ready, and change-ready.

  1. Being AI-ready involves more than just knowing how to use the latest AI tools. It’s also about learning to apply AI ethically and effectively, enhancing our abilities rather than replacing them.
  2. The more distinct our abilities are from those of AI, the greater the value we can create with it. By cultivating these uniquely human traits, we establish a complementary relationship with AI, enabling us to generate more value together than either humans or AI could achieve alone.
  3. Being change-ready means building the resilience and adaptability needed to thrive in today's world. This involves cultivating a new level of mental agility and a willingness to embrace continuous learning.

We risk becoming mentally complacent due to over-reliance on AI. The real danger isn't that AI will replace our unique human abilities, but that we may allow those abilities to fade by settling for AI's superficial capabilities.

To counteract AI complacency and become truly irreplaceable, we should focus on engaging in creative activities, practicing critical thinking, and building authentic relationships. The aim is to develop these uniquely human skills to a level that AI cannot replicate.

For businesses, becoming irreplaceable in the age of AI requires a similar strategy. Companies must maximise AI's potential while also emphasising the human element. Those that successfully balance both will emerge as winners. It also involves building trust with employees, partners, and customers by being transparent about AI usage and proactively addressing ethical concerns.

As we navigate this new era of AI, the key to success is not about competing with machines, but about enhancing our uniquely human qualities. By improving our AI literacy, nurturing our human traits, and fostering adaptability, we can thrive alongside AI rather than be replaced by it.

Ultimately, becoming irreplaceable in the age of AI isn't about outshining machines at their own tasks. It's about excelling in our humanity—embracing creativity, critical thinking, and genuine connections.
